Bio
I am a PhD student in Applied Economics at the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) in L’Aquila, Italy, supervised by Alessandro Palma (GSSI) and Ilan Noy (GSSI and Victoria University of Wellington).
My research is in environmental economics, health economics and applied microeconometrics, with secondary interests in education and labour economics. My dissertation studies the health and human-capital effects of environmental exposures, from prenatal exposure to pesticides to wildfire smoke.

A Toast to Health? Cognitive Effects of Local Pesticide Regulations
with Alessandro Palma and Daniela Vuri
Abstract (click to expand): We study how local pesticide regulation affects child human capital, and its broader implications, in the Veneto region (Italy). Exploiting staggered municipal adoption under Veneto's 2012 pesticide guideline, we link ordinance timing to population-level second-grade test scores. Among municipalities adopting in 2012–2014, exposure to the regulatory regime beginning in utero raises mathematics scores by 0.14 standard deviations, with no detectable effect on Italian-language performance. Estimates for 2015–2016 adopters are small and imprecise. River-monitoring data show declines in pesticide concentrations downstream of early adopters, consistent with changes in agricultural practices. We also find positive mathematics effects in untreated municipalities exposed to nearby adopters, indicating that conventional estimates are attenuated by contaminated controls. Longitudinal student records further show increased school-enrollment flows toward adopting municipalities. The findings suggest that local pesticide regulation can improve child cognitive outcomes while generating benefits and behavioral responses beyond adopting jurisdictions.
